During Youth and Government (Y&G) conferences, many delegates from all over California get to know each other. This often leads to many stereotypes around different delegations, as the dynamic of each delegation differs depending on location and size.
A survey was run consisting of various different delegations, with the most coming from the Newport Harbor YMCA and the Westchester Family YMCA. Many delegates seem to think the most enthusiastic delegation seems to be the Culver-Palms Family YMCA (CPY). This may be due to the large size of CPY, as well as the spirit they bring during the opening and closing session. According to the survey, delegates also favor CPY delegates the most. Many say this is due to their chant, or just being very nice and friendly. “The callbacks (are) very simple and easy to catch on with,” said a Forum delegate. Adding on to the enthusiasm, CPY was also voted for the most active delegation. Speaking up, being cheerful, and confidently presenting seems to be a strong suit for CPY, as they also were voted for having the best speakers. During Forum sessions, many CPY delegates were confident enough to debate on several bills, making them stand out in the crowd.
Delegates also seem to think the Berkeley Delegation and the Newport Harbor Delegation are the most well dressed groups. During the BOB conference, Newport delegates were seen dressed in fashionable navy blue quarter zips. As most delegations wore hoodies, this made their clothing stand out in a stylish way. At BOB, Berkeley delegates wore periwinkle hoodies with a creative design in the back. Many delegates appreciated Berkeley’s love for baggy jeans as well. Although all the delegations are kind and welcoming, delegates voted for the Sacramento Central Delegation and the Westchester Family YMCA as the nicest delegations. People seem to really like these delegations, and it may be due to meeting the kind and friendly leaders from these places. Overall, delegates seem to look at each delegation in a positive manner and seem to enjoy getting to know many different groups from different locations.
