Gun violence continues to be a significant issue in the United States. Lobbyists stated that, “according to the CDC 48,830 people died from gun related injuries in 2021 and that In California alone, someone is killed by a gun every 3 hours.” Despite these scary statistics, the nation keeps minimal gun regulations. To address this ongoing crisis we address this bill. Aimed at ensuring responsible gun ownership through regular tests of individuals qualifications to own firearms.

Mandatory five year federal gun ownership survey

Every gun owner must complete a federal mandated survey every 5 years to continue possession of a firearm. This survey will be available online or in person to ensure accessibility.

Survey Criteria

The survey will evaluate many parts of someone’s life to determine their fitness to own a gun, including, mental Health status, living conditions, and their criminal record.

In-Person Follow Up

If somebody’s survey results cause problems, government officials will have an in-person follow up to further address the situation. This insures that those who may pose a risk get more questioning before gaining their gun ownership rights.

License Revocation

• If an individual fails the in person follow up, their gun license will be removed.

• If a person provides wrong info on the survey, their license will be suspended or permanently taken away depending on the amount of the false information.

Conclusion

The goal of this bill is to stop guns from staying in the hands of people who may be a danger to themselves or others. By keeping up routine checks and follow ups, our goal is to reduce gun violence, suicides, and accidental shootings while making sure responsible gun owners keep their rights.
