Wildfires in Southern California happen because of dry weather, drought. Without enough firefighters watching for fires, small ones can spread fast. To help prevent fires, people should clear dry leaves and weeds, trim trees, and use gravel around their homes. Controlled burns and removing some trees in crowded forests can also lower the risk. These steps make fires less likely, protect homes, and keep forests healthier.

There are already some bills in place regarding the wildfires. Here are just some of them:  H.R.550, the FIRE Act of 2023, which establishes programs to improve wildfire forecasting and detection and H.R.4866 the Fire Weather Development Act of 2024, which authorizes research and development to help with wildfire management. Also we have the assembly bill 642 which further expands the use of prescribed burning, in part by growing and incorporating cultural burning by tribal communities (according to save the redwoods).

Our bill (FAB 105) is about increasing prescribed burning and just overall fire prevention and protection. We will use these bills that are already in place to create a better and more effective one that will prevent things like the palisades fire from ever occurring. This lack of preparation is very concerning and I think with the help of this bill we will create a better and safer future.
