The path to become a conversationalist can seem daunting for many. Social interactions may be difficult, and talking to others may not be some individuals’ strong suits. This is why many delegates in Youth and Government find themselves surprised after joining the Media program area.
Media is a program area in which individuals are able to interview advisors, staff, or other delegates to collect information on any topic that piques their interest. They can use this information, to write articles, make social media posts, or use any form of media to express themselves and their opinions.
Many find themselves to be better conversationalists after participating in the activities within media. They are taught how to ask insightful questions, keep conversation flowing, become better listeners, and speak and write in a way that flows naturally. These skills not only aid them in their specific program area, but also their general futures within Youth and Government and their daily lives.
There is a lot that goes on behind the scenes that media is responsible for. The articles written, containing information on different program areas, candidates’ platforms, and general information about the program, are not only seen by family and friends of the authors, but also important individuals. These individuals can include donators and shareholders who provide money and support, as well as students who are interested in participating in the program.
“The Future of Civic Engagement: How Youth & Government Shapes Tomorrow’s Leaders” is an article written by Xcaret Calderon and Ajhar Ellis, and published on The Daily Delegate. It explains civic engagement within the program and how students shape the future of the government and its leadership. The article educates people on the importance of civic engagement in youth, and brings those who are interested in the topic to Youth and Government.
The future of media in Youth and Government is a bright one. There are plans for more mediums to educate delegates about program areas, aiding them in exploring what they are passionate about. There are also plans to keep delegates updated on what is happening around them in different sessions through live broadcasting and breakdown videos of crucial events.
Media is far more than just questions and a camera. It brings people information that can change the path of their lives, it teaches people how to interact with others and the world around them more affectively, and it shows individuals outside the program just how essential Youth and Government is, and what its future holds.
