Have you ever been driving to school, to hang out with your friends, or to your favorite restaurant and BOOM, you hit a pothole?

Potholes seem like a small problem but they can actually cause serious damage to vehicles, drivers, and create considerable safety hazards for citizens.

The Economics and Infrastructure Committee’s bill in the Assembly proposes that once a pothole gets reported, local authorities must repair it within 5-7 days. If this deadline is not met, a $50 daily fine will be issued to the state until the pothole is fixed. However, unpredictable natural disasters can severely damage roads. So, counties will receive a six month grace period when natural disasters occur. To report potholes, citizens can use the 311 system, encouraging community involvement and faster response times.

By setting deadlines and consequences, this bill aims to improve road safety and reduce long-term infrastructure damage. Overall, this proposal balances fairness and efficiency, ensuring safe roads and flexibility during emergencies.
