The K-12 education senate proposes a bill that funds wellness centers in California public schools, serving students in grades 6-12. The Wellness center has services that address the person’s mental issues rather than just treating symptoms. There is someone who sits in the front and watches over all the students in the center, and staff talk to those who come into the center. This fund includes 0.001% of the current mental health tax of California, lasting for four years. 75% of said fund will be evenly distributed to public schools in California without wellness centers, and 5% will be distributed to current wellness centers. The remaining 25% of this fund will be distributed to California public schools who have placed bottom 20% in mental health resources, according to the California department of public education. Adolescents who struggle with any kind of mental health illnesses or struggles can come here for any support and guidance they seek.
