By Edwin Carrera, Bryce Hickman and Kiara Labrador
Hello Delegates!
Bryce Hickman from the Weingart wellness delegation, Edwin Carrera from the West Valley delegation of One Love (One Love!), and Kiara Labrador from the Mid Valley delegation here.
A day in media at the Sacramento conference for us is taking pictures at program areas, making videos, interviewing program leaders, and also getting updates on their latest activity from the program staff.

The first day of Sacramento, we didn’t know what to expect — Maybe we were a little overwhelmed. We like takings photos and it’s what drew us to the media program. We especially like walking around, seeing what the other program areas are working on. We even saw Violet Chin, our current youth governer while walking around the building.
We went around to some of the other program areas like Constitutional Convention, International Convention, Special Interest Committee, Forum and Board of Education, but there were so many more to see. Our favorite sessions to witness were Constitutional Convention — where we got to see both conservative and liberal takes in action and, apparently, VAMPIRES were legalized — and Board of Education — where it seemed liked everyone really seemed passionate and engaged about what they were working on.
We interviewed Aris Tate, who was part of the Board of Education program. She working on briefs to improve school systems. Her brief was about how musical arts are not very well funded, with more focus placed on academics and sports. Finding ways to increase funding for the arts is important. While sports foundations already donate to schools, reducing costs and improving funding efficiency could help support arts programs. This, in turn, could benefit students and contribute to higher graduation rates.
She encourages people to look into program areas that they feel comfortable in.
“For those who need advice, be you and be true, thank you,” said Tate.

Hello, Kiara speaking. We have been working with Veronica Flack our program leader! Her project is basically daily vlogs of whats going on in every program area. My role is to take pictures and interview the delegates on what they were doing during the day. I also made collages and posted it to the Cal Y instagram (check them out!). It has been really fun, I got to create collages expanding my abilities on graphic designing. I’ve always been interested in it so it was my goal to make collages for the Instagram.
Edwin speaking now, being allowed to freely roam was one of my favorite parts of Media as it allowed me to freely explore the Convention Center and meet new people, along with new sections and programs I probably wouldn’t have known about or cared for otherwise. One of my favorite programs was Constitutional Convention, seeing many kids with many beliefs holding many debates was awesome to see live. There was a kid who stood out as he was wearing a MAGA cap, seemingly looking to debate as much as possible. Media is a blast once you make connections with people and you don’t take it too seriously!
Back to me again, Bryce! Kiara, Edwin and I have all been going to different sessions all day every day and getting interviews, taking pictures, and recording videos of the sessions in action and working really hard to get you guys updates on Sacramento. Being able to freely walk around the Convention Center is the best and is one of my favorite parts of Media as it allowed me to meet new people, along with new sections and programs I probably wouldn’t have known about or cared for otherwise.
Talk later Youth and Government delegates!
